Old Batak calendar carved on water buffalo bones. A language and text that is almost extinct. Originally from Sumatra, Indonesia.
The datu followed a lunar calendar influenced by Hindu tradition. The days of a month correspond with Moon phases. Because the calendar held fast to 30-day months, some calendar have an extra thirteenth month in order to reconcile leap years or to make calculating a date that falls into the following year.
