Vintage Javanese large kendang gamelan instrument. A two headed drum with one side bigger than the other. Which is a typical Javanese style kendang. The drum body is made out of teak wood with beautiful carving along both side. Sits on a carved teak wood stand. There’s a little chipped area on one of the leg as shown in the picture. Though it’s so minor that doesn’t effect the stand from standing or holding. Originally from Java, Indonesia. A great orchestra quality one of a kind piece.
A kendang or gendang is a two-headed drum used by people from the Indonesian Archipelago. The kendang is one of the primary instruments used in the gamelan ensembles of Javanese, Sundanese, and Balinese music. It is also used in various Kulintang ensembles in Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. It is constructed in a variety of ways by different ethnic groups. It is related to the Indian double-headed mridangam drum.
