Description

Vintage Javanese Kendang (Gamelan Drum); This orchestra-quality, two-headed drum features the asymmetrical design typical of traditional Javanese style, with one head larger than the other. Carved from solid teak wood, the drum body displays intricate traditional motifs and rests on its original carved teak stand.

A foundational rhythm instrument in Indonesian music, the kendang sets the tempo and leads transitions in Javanese, Sundanese, and Balinese gamelan ensembles. Related to the Indian mridangam, similar double-headed drums feature prominently in Kulintang traditions across Southeast Asia. Originally from Java, Indonesia

Note: Minor vintage wear, including a small chip on one stand leg that does not affect structural stability.
