Description
Cast Brass piece from Indonesia. Lord Krishna is depicted dancing on top of the five-headed naga serpent, Kaliya. Krishna was playing ball with his friends one day, when the ball accidentally fell into the river where Kaliya lay. Krishna jumped into the river to retrieve the ball, and was attached by Kaliya. A battle ensued, with Lord Krishna ultimately winning the battle, sparing Kaliya’s life at the prayers of the naga’s many wives. Kaliya surrendered to Lord Krishna, promising to never bring harm to any of the people of the village again. This statue represents the moment when Krishna and Kaliya emerge from the river after Kaliya has surrendered.
