Description
A preowned Mask of Suyeong Yayu Maldugi from Sonpa Sandae(from the Songpa-dong and Garak-dong areas of presentday Seoul). Suyeong Yayu Maldugi meaning the cunning satire of the aristocracy, with the main character ‘s name Maldugi who is a servant. Used as a face mask in Byeolsandae Drama during performance. Made around the 1980’s. Hand carved from wood. Covering with textile from the back of the mask. Name of the mask, as well as the mask type were hand written in calligraphy inside the mask. One of a kind. originally from Korea.
It was designated as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Korea on December 7, 1964. UNESCO in 2022 Talchum was designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and was included along with other Korean mask dances.
