Description
A huge wayang klitik hand carved, hand painted from wood on a wheel stand. Wayang is a traditional form of puppet theatre play originally found in the cultures of Java, Indonesia.
Wayang klitik are constructed similarly to wayang kulit, but from thin pieces of wood instead of leather, and like wayang kulit figures, are used as shadow puppets. The name of these figures is from the sound klitik-klitik that these figures make when worked by the dalang. However, wood is more subject to breakage than leather. During battle scenes, wayang klitik figures often sustain damage. In a country in which before 1970 there were no adequate glues available, breakage generally meant an expensive made figure.
We have two of them. Though slightly different in size. While the one we have on site is 80 inches in height. The other one is 85 inches in height.
