Kempyang iron gong set on hand carved, hand painted teak wood box. There’s only one tabuh (mallet) that come with the set. The original owner had lost one of the tabuh. First got in the states around 1970’s. One set only.
The kempyang is a metal gong for the people of Java, Indonesia. It is a punctuating instrument that is part of the Yogyanese style gamelan. It requires specialized craftsmen to construct iron gongs kempyang. Many of the oldest gamelans in Java, such as the mid-18th century gamelan sekati of Yogyakarta, include a kempyang.
