A Chinese terracotta tomb figure (Ni Yong) from East Han Dynasty (25-220 AD). From the area of Tianhui Mountain in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. This kind of pottery figure fired at low temperature without glaze. This method was popular in Han dynasty before porcelain was invested. The figure were made for funeral purpose as part of the burial ceremony. So that the death have daily objects to accompany the deceased to the afterlife.
The terracotta storyteller adopts a realistic method to portray a storytelling artist, which also reflects the superb sculpture techniques of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It proves that the storytelling art had gradually turned mature and had been prevalent among ordinary people by then.
