A wonderful Korean celadon vase in Goryeo style, early 20th century. With two elephant heads and trunks as handles on both side of the vase.The body masterfully and robustly carved with a bold design of large flowering peony sprays. The bottom of the vase with design of lotus petals.
The vase is evenly glazed with a glassy finish, the glaze pooling beautifully over the carved areas. The glaze thinning in some recessed areas which makes the carved patterns stand out better. A great piece of art. In good condition.
The celadon ceramics produced in ancient Korea during the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392 CE). With a pale green luster of jade and a super smooth glaze. The value of older celadon (pre-1950) is based primarily on its age, uniqueness, skill, and preservation. Modern celadon that was made after the re-birth, valued by its beauty, uniqueness, and the fame of the artisan who made it. Goryeo celadons remain some of the most prized collector’s items in the world of ceramics.
