Description
Pair of hand carved white marble Foo Dogs, also known as Foo Lions, Shi Shi. Each weight over 7lbs. The female foo dog is depicted with her paw protecting her cub by placing it directly over the pup. The female foo dog symbolizes her maternal instinct to protect her baby. The male foo dog is depicted with his paw on top of a ball, which is a symbol for Earth. It symbolizes the male foo dog’s control over circumstances and how it affects your own private world.
A pair of foo dogs, one female (yin) and the other male (yang). People from Asia believed foo dogs stand guard on either side of the gates at the entrance to heaven. So they are often seen at the entrances to temples, palaces, and government offices.
The most auspicious placement according to feng shui is with the female on the left and the male on the right. Or easier way to recognize is: placed as both foo lion heads tilted inwards, like they’re looking after one another. Or as both foo dog holding cub and ball on the inner side closer to the doorway.
Sold as a matching pair.
