Description
Very rare antique wood sitting Buddha retrieve from an old temple in China. Hand carved from one piece of solid wood, it has a very genuine serene facial appearance that only old time carving masters could do. Used to be seated on the offering table in the temple for decades. For people praying for a peaceful healthy life, offering fruit, farm produce or whatever that people could offer their best at the time for their wishes. Incense burning smoke over the statue all those years. The original paint on the statue had been faded and not repaint, so you could actually see the original look.
The original collector had a pair and deaccessioned them when they got to our hands. He had them transfer to the States before ” Culture Revolution”. Thus, the Buddha statue’s facial appearance still remain in good condition. That being said, the statue still have cracks in few places due to time and weather from previous preserved condition. Kindly check our photos for better understanding of the current situation.
Culture Revolution was a sociopolitical movement in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Launched and lead by Mao Zedong in 1966 and lasted until his death in 1976. Red Guards sought to destroy the Four Olds (old ideas, old culture, old customs, and old habits), which often took the form of destroying historical artifacts, cultural and religious sites, and targeting people deemed to be representative of the Four Olds. Often referred to as the “ten years of chaos” or “ten years of havoc”.
A rare precious museum quality piece form the 18th century’s time of old China.
