Antique Chinese Maitreya Buddha Sitting on the base with dragon stella. A very delicate hand cast piece with lots of details through out the whole sculpture. The look on Maitreya Buddha’s face is simply serene and peaceful. There are visible tiny spots with patina and rust on the Buddha and lotus base due to the old age and the previous preserve condition. Originally from China. One of a kind.
Maitreya or Metteyya is regarded as a prophesied Buddha of this world in Buddhist eschatology. In some Buddhist literature, such as the Amitabha Sutra and the Lotus Sutra, the being is referred to as Ajita. According to Buddhist tradition, Maitreya is a bodhisattva who is prophesied to appear on Earth, achieve complete enlightenment, and teach the pure dharma. According to scriptures, Maitreya will be a successor to the present Buddha, Gautama Buddha (also known as Śākyamuni Buddha).
