Antique Recline Ganesha Lava Stone

An antique, hand-carved lava stone sculpture from Java, Indonesia, this large statue depicts a reclining Ganesha with intricate details across his headdress and robe. A rare artistic and spiritual depiction, a reclining Ganesha—also known as Shayan or sleeping Ganesha—shows Lord Ganesha in a relaxed, resting pose while leaning against his own arm. This serene posture symbolizes inner peace, contentment, and spiritual surrender after actively removing obstacles, while also inviting comfort, abundance, and prosperity.

Also spelled Ganesh and known as Ganapati or Vinayaka, he stands as one of the most widely worshiped deities in the Hindu pantheon. Devotion to Ganesha extends far beyond India, inspiring reverence among Jains and Buddhists alike. Most notably, people honor him as the remover of obstacles and god of beginnings, invoking his blessing at the start of sacred rites and ceremonies.
