Description
A hand cast brass piece Mahavidya Mahakalistands atop Shiva on a rectangular lotus base. The Ten Faces (Dasamukhi)in her ten-headed form, Mahakali represents the ten directions of consciousness, symbolizing her cosmic omnipresence and the integration of all ten Mahavidyas (Great Cosmic Powers). Revered in both Hinduism and Buddhism, Shaktism texts celebrate her as the goddess of time, death, and the supreme being. As the fierce counterpart and consort to Mahakala (the god of consciousness), she governs universal power, life, death, rebirth, and ultimate liberation.
Divine Weapons & Symbolism
Mahakali’s ten arms hold sacred symbols that guide the devotee toward spiritual awakening:
The Sword: Cuts through illusion and ignorance.
The Discus (Chakra): Spins the wheel of time, dissolving physical form.
The Mace: Crushes unrighteousness and the ego.
The Bow & Arrows: Master the senses and the mind.
The Severed Head: Signifies liberation from ego and attachment.
Abhaya & Varada Mudras: Hand gestures granting fearlessness, protection, and blessings.
Her deep blue or black skin represents the primordial void from which all creation springs. She wears a garland of heads and a skirt of severed arms, symbolizing freedom from bodily attachment. Finally, she steps gently upon the prostrate chest of Lord Shiva—a powerful visual of pure nature (Prakriti) balancing pure consciousness (Purusha).
