This rock is a natural marble formation similar to the rocks of Lake Taihu. The holes were slowly eaten out by carbonic acids created by the natural combining of water and atmospheric carbon dioxide over the millennia under ground. Exactly as caves and grottos are formed.
This type of rock is typically used in traditional Chinese gardens. From all angles, the piece looks different and is said to resemble mountains.
