Description
Hand cast lost wax dragon naga shape finial offering bowl. Made of wrought Iron. The naga displays all the characteristics of the heraldic dragon of the late Majapahit period. His wide open jaws with long sharp teeth, his upturned nose are marks of the naga in its Eastern Javanese guise.
Although each of these hoards contains ceremonial utensils used in religious ceremonies, the finials seem to be emblems of royalty or nobility, carried in parades of loyal retainers rather than religious objects carried around in processions. The use of similar finials continued in the Javanese keratons until modern times.
One of a kind. Originally from Indonesia.
