Vintage hand carved wood Bakunawa (dragon) mask. Original collector got it in the 1960’s when he lived in the Philippines. Vintage art piece that is still in great condition. One of a few Philippines art we got. Only one piece.
The Bakunawa is a serpent-like dragon in Philippine mythology. It is believed to be the cause of eclipses, earthquakes, rains, and wind. The movements of the Bakunawa served as a geomantic calendar system for ancient Filipinos.
