Description
Hand carved soapstone with peony growing in front of a garden rock. There is a pretty peacock which stands atop the rock. While the whole carving is magnificent. we really appreciate how intricate the branches were done underneath the peonies. As well as the natural shape base with nice soft curved carving lines. Definitely a delicate piece work of art.
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock. The veining of this stone is less compared to granite and marble. Soapstone is buried beneath the earth in its natural state and once it is pulled up it starts to oxidize. Through this process the stone will start to darken over time. It’s a gentle and gradual darkening. It’s wonderful to watch it age on its own following a course that nature intended.
This naturally quarried stone is softer than most other naturally occurring minerals. Although soft, soapstone is a very dense and non-porous stone; more so than marble, slate, limestone and even some granite.
One piece only.
