Description

Japanese Meiji period wood Sendai tansu made in late 19th century. Hand-cut iron hardware and beautiful made wood drawers. This wood tansu (Likely the wood of keyaki, which similar to zelkova in the west.) featuring a red finish that still showing beautiful pattern of the wood. The lacquer luster has being applied in multiple layers through the years.

A long upper drawer, followed by three medium sized ones on the left, while the right side comprises of two petite drawers surrounding a central door, the “safe”. Its door opens to reveal four additional petite hidden drawers. The front is fitted with rendered hand-cut iron hardware with floral motifs. The handles on two sides are for relocating or moving purpose. Japanese Meiji period tansu chest circa 1880-1900. Some normal usage mark through the years. Kindly check the pictures for better details. Over all in pretty good condition. The low key and calm feeling of the tansu suits perfectly for your classic elegant home.
