Description
Rare large male 16 inch bronze Thai Teppanom guardian angels in great antique condition. It shows some signs of age, and about 6 lb in weight. The statue is kneeling, with palms pressed together, is holding lotus in the hands with open eyes. Teppanom are a mythological angel and part of the Buddhist tradition in Thailand. One piece only.
Thepphanom or (thephanom) refers to an angel or deity who is a temple protector and guardian. They are often represented as a pair, a brother and a sister, kneeling on both knees with hands in a praying position or offering respect. The Thepanom first came to earth when Buddha reached enlightenment. They became Buddha’s protector, then guardian of religious temples and artifacts such as scrolls. The definition of Theppanom was by reading descriptions of Theppanom statues and communicating with Thai people.
