Old Japanese gold lacquer Buddha atop a stella base. Around late Meji era. Hand carved from wood, with very smooth and refined carving work. Old piece that was used in the butsudan (仏壇, lit. “Buddhist altar”). Most of the gold lacquer on the base has been wear off. A very kind and peaceful look on the Buddha’s face. One of a kind.
