Vintage Kimekomi Japanese Dolls Set In Glass Box
$1,280.00
Description
A glass box encases this complete set of traditional Japanese Kimekomi Hina dolls. Artisans make these figures by carving grooves into wooden bodies and tucking in luxurious, layered fabrics.
Japan celebrates Hinamatsuri, or Girls’ Day, as one of its five major seasonal festivals (Gosekku). Historically called the Peach Festival (Momo no Sekku), the event coincides with the spring blooming of peach trees.
The central display features two seated figures representing an Emperor (Obina) and Empress (Mebina) in Heian-era wedding attire. Grand displays, called hinakazari, place these royal figures on a multi-tiered stand (hinadan) alongside court ladies, musicians, and detailed ceremonial accessories.
One of a kind piece.
