Old Nepalese Buddha statue with real gold hand painted face. Also known as the Shakyamuni Buddha. Seated in the lotus base (padmasana position), with both legs tucked beneath him atop a lotus base. Along with peculiar characteristics of Nepalese Buddha- small bump in the head and long earlobes, with a monastic robe. The robe is open, leaving the right shoulder and right breast uncovered. Here Buddha is shown in Bhumisparsha Mudra. Also known as Earth touching mudra. Shakyamuni is seated, with this particular posture and its gesture re-presents the moment of Buddha awakening as he states the Earth as the witness of enlightenment.

In Nepal, Buddha statues, alternatively also known as Buddharupa are best known for their characteristics to demonstrate the teaching of Buddha. Since the Buddhism was flourished in ancient Nepal. And the statues were crafted through exceptional handmade skills. These skills are still transferred from generations to generations. Nepalese Buddha statues are mainly portrayed in sitting position in the lotus throne. But we can see variation in the hand postures. These hand mudras have deep meaning for learning the path to Nirvana.
