Description
In this beautiful hand carved red wood sculpture, Guan Yin reclines in a relaxed and contemplative position. She is described as the goddess of Mercy, and is regarded as one of the most beloved Buddhist Divinities. Guan Yin symbolizes unconditional love and compassion for those in need. There’s a fixed spot on her right hand. Though over all a rare beautiful piece. Kindly see the photographs for better description. One of a kind piece.
Guanyin ( 觀音; 观音) is a Bodhisattva associated with compassion. She is the East Asian representation of Avalokiteśvara. Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, which means “The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World.”
Some Buddhists believe that when one of their adherents departs from this world, they are placed by Guanyin in the heart of a lotus, and then sent to the western pure land of Sukhāvatī. Guanyin is often referred to as the “most widely beloved Buddhist Divinity” with miraculous powers to assist all those who pray to her, as is mentioned in the Pumen chapter of Lotus Sutra and Kāraṇḍavyūha Sūtra.
