Sheetla Mata Marble

Description

This sculpture depicts the Hindu goddess Sheetla Mata (also known as Sitala, Shitala) standing with a baby donkey. She is known as the healer of childhood illness, especially smallpox. This Murti sculpture has been used in worship in a temple in India. Hindu priests call the god’s spirit into the Murti which can then be used to communicate with the Gods.
