Description
1890~1920’s Tibetan Buddha Lapis Glass and Brass Collar Necklace. An amazing piece that is hand crafted with lapis glass. The massive amount of delicate work that is involved in it is impressive.
Each one having a Seated Buddha Figure, with hands in mudras. On the two end plates are two Garuda Buddhas. The Buddhist believes that Garuda bless the Wearer, purify with positive forces, provide good luck and to help dissolve negative energies that may be stopping them from realizing their dreams and wishes in life. The Buddhas are made of lapis glass stones. The five-pointed crown is indicative that this Buddha represents the five Buddhas (Akshobhya, Virochana, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha and Amoghasiddhi) in Mahayana tradition
The 5 Dhyani Buddhas, represent the 5 wisdoms realized in mediation: the wisdom of the Great Mirror, the wisdom of the Essential Equality, Distinguishing Wisdom, the wisdom of Selfless Activity , and the Transcendental wisdom of the Dharma Realm.
Condition is very good. Surface scratching/tarnishing overall; some missing glass; some of the crowns are dented/damaged. Though it doesn’t detract from the overall look of the piece. This is an unusual and elaborate collar necklace.
This measures 26.5″ long around the neck and is a whopping 2″ wide. Each panel is hinged and it lays well when on. Museums quality and is also good for collectors. As a matter of fact, a person who worked for one of the most famous museums has told us that they have never come aross another like it.
