It is believed that rubbing his belly will bring luck and prosperity. An amazing art quality piece showing bountiful details of Hotei and the water buffalo. Hotei, in Japanese mythology, one of the Shichi-fuku-jin. This popular figure is depicted frequently in contemporary crafts as a cheerful, contented Buddhist monk with a large exposed belly, often accompanied by children.
