Description
This is a gong kemodong from Java, Indonesia. Originally owned by a professional Javanese Gamelan orchestra before 1980’s. With well carved teak wood case, which secured the terracotta pot inside for reflecting and collecting the sound. One of the best quality piece with brass keys. A gong kemodong is sometimes as a substitute of gong ageng for a smaller gamelan orchestra. As a require instrument in a complete gamelan orchestra.
It obtains the sound through a construction design that actually belongs to the family of gender instruments – that is, bronze bars suspended over a resonator. The desired beat-note of the gong ageng is obtained by striking, at the same time or in rapid succession, two bars with slightly diverging pitches.
