Description
Hand carved soapstone incense burner. Beautiful hand carved hollow out repeated motifs surround the box. Atop with a hollow out floral design for the cover as well. There’s a flower pinhole inside which was used to hold the incense. A simple delicate work of art piece.
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock. The veining of this stone is less compared to granite and marble. Soapstone is buried beneath the earth in its natural state and once it is pulled up it starts to oxidize. Through this process the stone will start to darken over time. It’s a gentle and gradual darkening. It’s wonderful to watch it age on its own following a course that nature intended.
This naturally quarried stone is softer than most other naturally occurring minerals. Although soft, soapstone is a very dense and non-porous stone; more so than marble, slate, limestone and even some granite.
