$3,800.00
Description
Unique hand carved and painted huge Hanuman from one piece of wood. Carved in the form as a guardian figure to stand in front of the Hindu temples. Could hold a pole/ rod in his right hand. There was a crack at the bottom of the sculpture since the piece was carved, as shown in the picture. The crack doesn’t effect the stability. A magnificence vintage piece from the 1970’s.
Hanuman is a Hindu god and divine vanara (monkey), and companion of the god Rama. Hanuman also is one of the central characters of the Hindu epic Ramayana. He symbolizes the human excellence of inner self-control, faith and service to a cause.
In medieval era Hindu temples, archeological sites and manuscripts discovered in Indonesian and Malay islands, Hanuman features prominently along with Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Vishvamitra and Sugriva. Hanuman, along with other characters of the Ramayana, are an important source of plays and dance theater repertoire at Odalan celebrations and other festivals in Bali.
