A Japanese silk embroidery landscape picture depicting a Buddhist pagoda and a temple compound set in a forest with towering pines, cherry trees, and maple trees. The five tiers pagoda in the front center of the picture is commonly find in Buddhist temples, therefore it is difficult to point out the exact location. This is a truly work of art. The high relief technique using a combination of gold and silver threads with different sheen and shades renders the piece a incredible sense of dimension. Its size, craftsmanship makes it truly one of a kind.
This type of pictures were made in the early 20th century (1900-20s) toward the end of Meiji and part of Taisho period. At the time, Japan experienced an tremendous opening to the west and a flux of cultural and artistic exchange and influence. Western aesthetic and perspective on art influenced Japanese art made around that time as well. This silk embroidered picture was a great example.
kindly noted that there’s crack of the silk part, atop the pagoda near the top part of the picture. It doesn’t effect the embroidery work. Though we still reflected on the price for its condition. Kindly check the pictures for better details.
