Vintage hand cast iron Muga Doji Okimono figurine. With a beautiful gold gilt finish on the outside. Made during the 1960s. An amazing quality one of a kind piece.

A Muga Dōji (“Selfless Child”) is a traditional Japanese okimono (ornamental figurine) capturing Zen Buddhist ideals of innocence and inner peace (muga or mushin). Inspired by a famous painting by Yokoyama Taikan (1868–1958), the figure depicts spiritual enlightenment through a child rather than a traditional deity. Mid-20th-century sculptors adapted Taikan’s beloved motif into cast-iron figures—often finished with gold and silver gilt or a burnished bronze tone—designed for display in a tokonoma (alcove) or on a butsudan (altar).
