Description
Hand carved soapstone vase with beautiful delicate chrysanthemum flowers all over the vase. There are a few birds and butterflies flying among the flower bush if you look carefully. Many Longevity symbols form the band at the bottom. The vase sits atop a very delicate carved soapstone stand. A beautiful piece of work.
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock. The veining of this stone is less compared to granite and marble. Soapstone is buried beneath the earth in its natural state and once it is pulled up it starts to oxidize. Through this process the stone will start to darken over time. It’s a gentle and gradual darkening. It’s wonderful to watch it age on its own following a course that nature intended.
This naturally quarried stone is softer than most other naturally occurring minerals. Although soft, soapstone is a very dense and non-porous stone; more so than marble, slate, limestone and even some granite.
One piece only.
