Description
Vintage teak san pra prom spirit house with gold leaves. A shrine for the protective spirits of a place. It is in a Thai palace structure. Usually mounted on a pillar or on a dais. Most Thai spirit houses can range in size from small platforms to houses large enough for people to enter. This is on the larger scale about 26 inches wide, and 35 inches tall for countertop. People put offerings at the house daily to propitiate the spirits. A more elaborate carving teak spirit house with mirrors, and 24k gold leaves all over the spirit house. It’s in great condition. One of a kind.
Most Thai houses and businesses have a spirit house located in an auspicious spot, often in a corner of the property. The location may be chosen with a priest. Spirit houses are known as နတ်စင် (nat sin) or နတ်ကွန်း (nat kun) in Burmese; ศาลพระภูมิ (san phra phum, ‘house of the guardian spirit’) in Thai; and រានព្រះភូមិ (rean preah phum, ‘shrine for the guardian-spirit’) or តូបទេវតា (tope taveda) in Khmer.
