Description
Hand carved Hanuman guardian figure from wood in the 1970’s. The sculpture is in great condition. With lots of details carved on the headdress, neck and lower body area. Color had faded through the years which naturally offers an old look to it. There is a carved loop on Hanuman’s left hand to hold a pole/ rod of a flag or umbrella.
Hanuman is a Hindu god and divine vanara (monkey), and companion of the god Rama. Hanuman also is one of the central characters of the Hindu epic Ramayana. He symbolizes the human excellence of inner self-control, faith and service to a cause.
In Bali, there are often a pair of guardian figures carved from either wood or stone in front of the entrance. Not only as guardian figure to protect the household, but also often use to hold flags or textile umbrellas on each side of the door steps.
