Description

Antique Chinese Guan Yin Sitting Statue with white jade face and hands. White jade is a nephrite jade from Hotien area in China. White jade was very popular in the emperor times due to its color symbolize purity and sacred. There are visible spots with patina and rust on the Bodhisattva and lotus base due to the old age and the previous preserve condition. Originally from China. One of a kind.

The most used Chinese translation of the bodhisattva known as Avalokiteśvara. Chinese Goddess of Mercy. Guanyin Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, which means “The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World”. Originally regarded as male in Indian Buddhism, Guanyin has been more commonly depicted as female in most of East Asia since about the 12th century. Due to sociogeographical factors, Guanyin can also be historically depicted as genderless or adorning an androgynous apprentice.

Some Buddhists believe that when one of their adherents departs from this world, they are placed by Guanyin in the heart of a lotus, and then sent to the western pure land of Sukhāvatī. Guanyin is often referred to as the “most widely beloved Buddhist Divinity” with miraculous powers to assist all those who pray to her, as is mentioned in the Pumen chapter of Lotus Sutra and Kāraṇḍavyūha Sūtra.
