Description
A Japanese silk embroidery landscape picture depicting a temple in the forest with towering pines, cherry trees, and maple trees. An amazing piece of hand embroidered work to show the different type of trees and their flourish leaves growing together in harmony. One could almost sense the wind through the woods in a peaceful sensation. This is a truly work of art. The high relief technique using a combination of gold and silver threads with different sheen and shades renders the piece a incredible sense of depth and dimension. Its sizes and craftsmanship makes it truly one of a kind.
This type of pictures were made in the early 20th century (1900-20s) toward the end of Meiji and part of Taisho period. At the time, Japan experienced an tremendous opening to the west and a flux of cultural and artistic exchange and influence. Western aesthetic and perspective on art influenced Japanese art made around that time as well. This silk embroidered picture was a great example.
