Rama, a major deity in Hinduism and the seventh avatar of Vishnu, Rama embodies the ideal human—the maryāda puruṣottama. He stands as the central heroic figure of the ancient epic, the Ramayana, a foundational text celebrated across South and Southeast Asia.

According to Valmiki’s Ramayana, Rama was born in Ayodhya, capital of the Kosala Kingdom, to King Dasaratha and Queen Kausalya. Alongside his devoted half-brothers—Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna—he grew up in the royal court before marrying Sita. Following a 14-year forest exile, Rama returned to Ayodhya to reclaim his rightful place on the Kosala throne. Today, he remains one of the most revered avatars in the Vaishnavism tradition.
