Description
An old brass or bronze with copper repousse panel featuring Shiva. Originally made in Tanjavur area in South India. The panel is constructed only one sheet, with the repousse scene.
The image depicts Shiva wearing a knee length garment with skulls along the hem. Sitting in a moonlight garden atop a tiger skin. Tiger symbolically represents power. Shiva sitting on tiger skin and wearing it means that he is beyond and dominates over all powers. With Nandi reclines quietly and faithfully behind him. A warm brownish patina covers this devotional piece.
